H2IOSC TNA/NA Calls: outcomes and key insights from the 2024–2025 access programme

End of cycle, new beginnings for H2IOSC services

With the conclusion of the fourth and final TNA/NA Call, the H2IOSC Cluster completes its 2024–2025 access programme, offering free transnational and national access to advanced digital services for researchers, public institutions, professionals, and companies working in the fields of humanities, linguistics, and cultural heritage.

Across all four calls, a total of 62 users gained access to H2IOSC services. Their participation has contributed to testing the digital solutions developed within the project and to fostering new collaborations between the scientific community, public administrations, and the private sector.

Overview of the services offered

Throughout the four calls, a total of 17 digital services were made available, addressing a wide range of research and operational needs within the humanities and cultural heritage domains. These included solutions for non-invasive diagnostics, digital philology, FAIR data management, 3D modelling, linguistic Linked Open Data, Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) technologies, and workflow orchestration systems for complex research processes. Collectively, these services demonstrated the maturity, openness, and interoperability of the tools developed within the H2IOSC ecosystem.

International participation

Users participating in the four TNA/NA Calls came from a broad geographical area, highlighting the international reach of the H2IOSC access programme. While most applicants were based in Italy, the calls also attracted participants from several European and non-European countries, including France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Iceland, and Cyprus, as well as from Canada and Lebanon.

This geographical diversity reflects the growing visibility of H2IOSC at the international level and its positioning as a gateway to high-quality digital services provided by the Italian nodes of major European Research Infrastructures in the fields of humanities and cultural heritage.

A collective achievement

The successful implementation of the TNA/NA Calls was made possible thanks to the coordinated effort and strong commitment of the service providers from the participating Research Infrastructures: CLARIN-IT, DARIAH-IT, and E‑RIHS.it. Their expertise, responsiveness, and continuous interaction with users ensured high-quality support at every stage of the access programme.

Beyond the delivery of services, the technical and scientific assistance offered by the providers represented a key added value, enabling users to fully harness advanced digital tools, refine research workflows, and explore innovative methodological approaches.

This joint commitment, combined with the integrated technical and scientific coordination provided by the H2IOSC project, showcased the potential of a collaborative and interoperable ecosystem capable of supporting frontier research as well as the operational needs of cultural institutions, public organisations, and private enterprises.

Looking ahead

Although the call cycle has now concluded, the results achieved will inform the ongoing integration of services within the H2IOSC Federation, strengthen the collaborations established during the access programme, and support the design of new strategies and opportunities for service access and technical–scientific assistance.

The closure of this cycle marks not an end, but a transition towards new developments for the evolution and expansion of the H2IOSC service ecosystem.
